Direct Pool Tiles was proud to supply one of Australia’s largest commissioned custom mosaic wall installations as part of the Victorian Government’s landmark Metro Tunnel Project.
Working alongside John Holland and the Victorian Government, this remarkable public artwork demonstrates how custom glass mosaics can be used on a massive architectural scale while maintaining extraordinary precision and craftsmanship.

Precision Manufacturing on a Monumental Scale
Unlike standard wall tiles, this project required the production of thousands of 25mm glass mosaic tiles, each individually positioned to create a highly detailed artwork extending across an enormous wall surface.
Every sheet was carefully numbered and manufactured to ensure the artwork aligned perfectly during installation.
The accuracy required for a project of this size is exceptional, with every individual mosaic forming part of a much larger image and typography that had to match the original artist’s design precisely.
A Collaboration with Stephen Banham
The installation features the work of renowned typographic artist Stephen Banham, whose design celebrates community, place and local history through carefully selected words and graphic elements.
The custom glass mosaics faithfully reproduce every detail of the original artwork, demonstrating the level of precision that can be achieved using modern digital mapping combined with traditional mosaic craftsmanship.
